Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail

The proposed Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail is 463 kilometres in length, and will link Clinton, 70 Mile House, 100 Mile House, Likely, and Wells.

About This Project

The Cariboo region is linked by a network of trails and back roads that brings images of intricately patterned spider webs to mind. Access to this network varies significantly; some of the roads can be accessed in vehicles while many of the most unique sites can only be found by venturing in on ATV's, bikes, snowmobiles, foot or on horseback. The network connects neighbouring regions and local communities, providing locals and tourists with a shared passion. While some of the trails are well marked and maintained, other trails only exist in the memories of the old-timers.

South Cariboo Tourism is using many of these trails and roads in order to develop the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail, a 463 kilometer long trail that will link Clinton, 70 Mile House, 100 Mile House, Likely, and Wells.

The trailhead is located at 70 Mile House, which is roughly halfway between 100 Mile House and Clinton. 170 kilometers of the trail between 70 Mile House and Horsefly was legally established in January 2003.

In 2010, the District of 100 Mile House successfully developed a trail maintenance and promotion project in order to create tourism opportunities in the South Cariboo. The project saw the cleanup of approximately 50 kilometres of existing trails, development of a multi-purpose trail, construction of a bridge at Scott Creek, updating of GPS data and trail mapping, establishment of trail maintenance and improvement, and installation of trail signage to promote the newly revitalized trails.

The Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail is well-suited for multi-use, and outdoor enthusiasts use the trails for other seasonal activities such as mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.

The New Pathways to Gold Society is providing support for the Regional Management Committee, which has been set up to oversee the upgrading and long-term management of the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail. A preliminary business plan for the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail has been prepared, and the Management Committee, with support from New Pathways to Gold, is working to implement key components of the plan.
